May is Mental Health Month
By Dakota Priest, Community Health Leader
May is Mental Health Month. It is a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and advocate for those living with mental or behavioral health issues. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 57.8 million people live with a mental illness, or more than 1 in 5 U.S. adults. Additionally, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services states that 49.5% of adolescents have experienced a mental health disorder at some point in their lives. It is because of these growing numbers that it is more pertinent than ever to continue to raise awareness, educate ourselves, and celebrate recovery.
